BBC One HD launches tonight

BBC One HD will be broadcasting from 7pm tonight. Don’t get too excited though, as it’ll be starting with everyone’s least favourite sofa based antics and clinically prescribed banter, The One Show. BBC One HD will be a simulcast of BBC One scheduling, so you might want to switch back to non-HD BBC One when Eastenders pops on the box (Dot Cotton in HD? Are you sure?). A software upgrade is on its way for the Humax HD-FOX T2 set top box for Freeview HD, which will allow you to record live TV to a USB drive, turning your Humax Freeview HD box into a makeshift PVR. The Humax HD-FOX T2 update is due in early October, and also brings live pause and rewind, split recordings and schedule tracking so that you start your recordings on time.

Update: the new Apple TV will sell in the UK for £99. We’re also not getting TV rentals just yet. The UK Apple Store promises film rentals but there’s no sign of TV shows at the moment.

The entire Star Wars saga is finally hitting Blu-ray later this year. George Lucas revealed the plans during the Celebration V Star Wars convention this weekend. The owner of Hollywood’s bushiest beard (and creator of Jar Jar Binks) says all six films will have an HD overhaul and arrive next year.
