Sony’s PSP console has long suffered from the effects of piracy, thanks to loopholes in the console’s security and teams of dedicated hackers ready to exploit them. Sony’s Peter Dille has described how this has affected the PSP software business, calling the levels of piracy “frankly sickening” and admitted that the number of PSP games being distributed on peer-to-peer file-sharing networks has had a devastating effect on the development community.

Nintendo has dropped a few hints about a possible VoIP service for the new DSi console. Skype seems like an obvious choice, what with it being the most prolific VoIP service around and everything. Not to mention the fact it has already come to PSP. Hardware-wise, there’s nothing stopping it, but now Nintendo has denied having any plans to support Skype on its handheld.

Sony drops UMD for Patapon 2

Sony has confirmed Patapon 2 for PSP is going on sale as download-only title in the US, with no UMD version going to retailers. It’s described as a “test case” to gauge player’s interest in digital only content.

Rumours are already suggesting that Sony’s next handheld, be it the PSP 2 or PSP-4000, will come without a UMD drive and this latest news certainly points in that direction. Read on for more.

Halo heading to mobiles?

Halo could be heading to mobile and handheld devices, according to a new job posting at Microsoft’s Redmond HQ. The Halo team is looking for someone to “blend console, web, and mobile”, which is a clear indication that something Halo related is heading to mobile space, although it’s not clear exactly what.

UPDATE: Chart Track has now come up with some numbers to backup its claims: 92,000 Nintendo DSi units were sold over the console’s opening weekend.


Nintendo’s new DSi handheld is off to a flying start in the UK; according to Chart Track data, it has become the fourth fastest selling console ever, easily outdoing the original DS and later DS Lite upgrade. Read on for more.
