Sharing your pictures of fireworks on Facebook could be a little tricky if some self-proclaimed members of Anonymous get their way. Part of the amorphous hacker collective has announced that it will attack Facebook on November 5. It’s an appropriate date given the group’s well-known love of the V For Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask.

A video press release, featuring the usual Anonymous tropes of ominous music and a synthesised voice, calls for help in taking down Facebook and accuses the social network of sharing information with government agencies. However, messages from the Anonymous Twitter account (@anonops) state: “#OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of #Anonymous agrees with it.”

Long before Windows Phone 7 Mango bore fruit, Windows Mobile 6.5 phones like the HTC HD2 were left behind. But backslashsid, a member of the XDA-Developers forum, thought that was unfair and has managed to port the Windows Phone 7 Mango Beta 1 to the device.

PayPal UK has joined Fox News in the unfortunate club of firms who’ve had their Twitter accounts hacked. At around 8pm last night, an unknown individual with a grudge against PayPal took over the @paypaluk account and began sending a stream of angry tweets including a link to long-time anti-PayPal site, PayPal Sucks. With the help of Twitter support staff the company regained control of the account at around midnight.

PayPal immediately tweeted to reassure customers that they’re data and, more importantly, their cash is safe and sound: “This account was hacked earlier. We have it in our control now. Your personal data is still 100% safe, hack occurred on Twitter not PayPal.” However, a look at Twitter reveals that the company is still receiving concerned tweets from customers spooked by the hack.

If you’re a PayPal customer, what did you make of the incident? Click the headline and head for the comments to let us know.

AnonymousIRC, a twitter account used by former members of Lulzsec (the group behind the PlayStation Network hack) and Scientology-baiting folk from Anonymous, claims an Apple server has been compromised as part of the ongoing AntiSec hacking campaign.

Don’t start staring fearfully at your Macbook or clasping your iPhone to your bosom just yet. It seems the security breach, if it’s legit, is limited to a server used to conduct a survey by Apple’s Business Intelligence group. Still, the group says Apple could be a full on target of its attentions in the future…
