Apple TV set to be powered by iOS and launch by 2013Rumors of an Apple-brand TV set have been resurrected this afternoon. According to multiple sources cited by Venture Beat, namely infamous Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Apple will produce a TV set by the end of 2012 or early 2013. We’ve heard whispers of an Apple-branded TV since 2009, but this time Mr. Munster believes the looming launch of iCloud will finally make it all possible.

Google TV is UK bound, launching within ‘next six months’According to the Telegraph and Mail, Google is planning the unthinkable. After a soft launch in the US over nine months ago, the search giant is finally releasing its set top box in the UK. That’s right, Google TV hits the UK within the next six months. A formal announcement by head honcho, Mr. Eric Schmidt, is expected at the Edinburgh Television Festival later today.

We’re still waiting for Google TV to ship up on these shores and the news from across the Atlantic has not been that promising when it comes to the search giant’s attempt to sashay into living rooms but that could be set to change. Google has finally made a major move to bring Android apps to Google TV, something it’s been teasing since it first unveiled the platfom.

A major Google TV overhaul is reportedly in the works and a preview version of the Google TV plug-in for the Android SDK has finally made it into the wild. That’s a big deal because it’ll allow Android developers to start customising their apps for the big screen. Google says the number of apps available on the TV will be small to start with but the development makes us hopeful that we might actually see a more developed Google TV make it here.

Google TV hasn’t been on high on Google’s list of priorities recently. It was only briefly mentioned at Google I/O with an Android Honeycomb upgrade and we’re still waiting for the UK launch to materialise. But a quietly made acquistion suggests that a rethought Google TV is in the works.

Google has bought Sage TV, a Californian set top box maker whose sole product combines DVR features with Slingbox-style placeshifting, and immediately shuttered its site. Could that technology about to be folded into Google TV?
