Push your keyboard to one side, Google Chrome will now listen to your queries. Google voice search which has been built into the search giant’s mobile apps for some time has now hit the desktop. The Google Chrome voice control features are rolling out now and all you need to use them is a built-in mic.

To access voice search in Google Chrome, you simply click the microphone icon in the far right corner of the search box and speak your query. Google says its English voice search system now recognises 230 billion words and the guy demonstrating it in the video after the break shows off a little (“weather for Schenectady, New York”, anyone?)…

Continuing its taste for commercials that kind of don’t make much sense, Google has co-opted Lady Gaga for its latest Google Chrome ad.

The Lady Gaga Google Chrome video, which you can take a peek at after the break, features the singer communicating with her “little monsters” in a variety of different ways using Google products.

The message as far as we can see is that Google helps Lady Gaga practice mind control. There’s an awful lot of Gaga fans instantly responding to her commands in the clip…

Greg Leuch and fffff.at have put together a Google Chrome/Firefox plugin called Tinted Sheen which will banish all mentions of Charlie Sheen from your browser.

If you want the web free of XXXXXXX quotes, XXXXXXX news and general XXXXXXX stuff there is a solution.” Isn’t that better? In fact, you could almost say it’s WINNING!

Microsoft has steamed into the battle over H.264 raging between Apple and Google and it’s on the fruity side of the fight. First Microsoft released a blog post that made it clear that it supports continued love for H.264 and does not want to move to Google’s WebM video standard instead.

Microsoft says it’ll support third party WebM plugins but it won’t be baking that in itself. And it’s gone even further: Microsoft is releasing a plug-in for Google Chrome for Windows that will put H.264 support back in. The fight is on and WebM’s warrior force is looking decidedly small.

Rockmelt is a browser for the Facebook and Twitter obsessed. Built on the open-source build of Google Chrome (Chromium), it integrates Facebook and Twitter straight into the main window. On the left you get you Facebook friends there to chat to and check out status updates while on the right of the screen your RSS and Twitter feeds burble along. Rockmelt uses push notifications to let you know when you’ve got messages stacking up and you can update your own Twitter and Facebook accounts from wherever you are on the web.
