This month has probably been one of the best for gaming in, well, ever, what with Call Of Duty: World At War, Fallout 3 and Gears Of War 2 all wearing out reviewers’ 5-star stamps. But if you haven’t got the cash to splash, or post-apocalyptic shooters aren’t your thing, there’s plenty of extra mileage to be gained from the games already on your shelves. Bonus and downloadable content is the way forward, and these are the games you need to hold on to a little longer before popping them up on eBay.

Five lots of bonus game content worth waiting for!
Gears of War 2 gets “phwoar” factor; games marketing sinks to new low
According to “sources” quoted in The Daily Star as being close to Page 3 Stunna Lucy Pinder, the “Bournemouth babe, 24, is a real-life Xbox fan” who “regularly takes on internet players across the world in her favourite ’shoot-em-up’ games”. The Daily Star, strangely enough, also have a pic of Lucy (partially reproduced here) in some vaguely military-related scraps of cloth to further seal the connection between gigantic breasts and, well, some game with grunting blokes and loads of blood in. Is this really what Microsoft and/or The Daily Star consider clever marketing of games?
Gears of War 3 to make you pay for last boss battle as a download?!
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Epic Games (creators of the Gears Of War and Unreal series) President Dr Michael Capps has spoken about the burgeoning battle between the games industry and games rental and resale services. Capps suggests one possibility to make sure games companies got money from renters that is being mooted is: “If you want to fight the final boss you go online and pay $20, but if you bought the retail version you got it for free.”
Sony UK MD: Wii and Xbox 360 are “on their way down”
Sony Computer Entertainment UK’s Managing Director, Ray Maguire, has opened his big gob again. In a bullish interview he proclaims the PS3 as the “most powerful gaming platform ever” that will be “around for a very long time” despite launching late. And that “some other competing formats are on their way down right now”.
MetaCritic to tighten up on user reviews as fanboy rule breaks out
Online review aggregator MetaCritic is being forced to seriously rethink its user registration procedure after an outbreak of fanboy mobbing. While game critics have been almost universally wowed by three of this year’s biggest games – Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet – their equivalent user reviews paint a completely different picture, thanks to spiteful users artificially lowering the average user scores.
Gamers queue around the block for first Gears Of War 2 multiplay
It’s the Eurogamer Expo in London today, and hardcore gamers have been practicing patience worthy of a Buddhist monk by waiting hours for a chance to play Gears Of War 2 before next month’s release.
Fable II and Gears Of War 2 stolen; Gears also on BitTorrent
A man has been arrested with nearly 100 copies of Microsoft’s key pre-Christmas Xbox 360 releases: Fable II and Gears Of War 2. Rodney Gray worked for Technicolor in Memphis, Tennessee – the company prints game packaging and provides warehousing and distribution.
