The two gadget giants behind it are ending their dual-branding efforts, but according to a new report, that paves the way for Garmin to roll out some tantalising new software for other smartphones. The Garmin Asus A10 certainly is an interesting proposition. The newly announced smartphone runs Android, which is rarely a bad idea, but here’s the thing: phone and PND partnership Garmin Asus is bigging up its unique pedestrian navigation software onboard. Won’t Google Maps on almost any other phone suffice for that?

With the Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50, the satnav slash smartphone maker has finally taken the plunge into Android it’s been talking up for a while now, and this time, it’s got a European launch date. But with Android already capable of free navigation via Google Maps, is it too little too late?
It seems like an age since we got our first tantalising glimpse of the Garmin nüvifone G60 (in fact it was January 2008), but the satnav-flavoured touchscreen phone is finally poised to hit a major market. Sadly it’s the US rather than Blighty, but surely a UK launch can’t be too far off?
It’s already on sale in Taiwan, and now the ever-elusive Garmin–Asus nüvifone G60 is apparently now dated for the US too – albeit rather vaguely.
Garmin-Asus have confirmed that their jointly-developed Android mobile will be making its debut by ‘Q1 2010′ – and may even be out earlier.
