For me, a huge part of the appeal of the G71V is not only its gaming pedigree, but also its ability as a multimedia centre. And central to this, is the sumptuous HD screen, Blu-ray player and powerful sound system.

Finally! Time to play some games and I admit that I approached this phase of the blog with extreme excitement. I wanted to look at 3 things specifically; overall performance, battery life and what kind of heat would be generated while playing with this on my lap (and would I need to get my asbestos trousers back from the cleaners?)
You know how it is – you get a new addition to the family, be it a child, puppy or a laptop, so the first thing you do is to get your mates over to come and inspect your new pride and joy. When it came to discussing the overall look and design of the G71V, opinion was definitely divided and there were a few who found the machine to be slightly garish. My argument is that this is a high-end gaming machine! It’s meant to be brash and bold and in your face, not some meek grey slab that gets lost in the crowd.
It would seem that my birthday has come early this year! I have been given an opportunity to put the Asus G71V gaming rig through its paces for four weeks and the timing couldn’t have been better.
