At long last Samsung has taken its talents to the world of DVRs. The Korean manufacturer introduced the SMT-S7800 this morning, a Freesat DVR with a 500GB hard drive and two tuners, perfect for watching one show while recording another. Welcome to the big show Samsung.

Starting from today, the BBC has announced that Freesat viewers will be getting a beefed up service from the Beeb. Freesat viewers can now access the BBC’s single stream video services, on top of the Sport Multiscreen service from the initial launch.
The first bit of extra BBC Red Button content that Freesat folks will be able to tune into is exclusive content from Episodes, and the Being Human spin off, Becoming Human, which will kick off on 30 January.

BBC One HD will launch this autumn showing the same schedule as BBC One. While the thought of Anne Robinson in HD is unsettling, the good news is BBC One HD will be free on Freeview HD and all digital TV platforms. The BBC iPlayer roll out on Freesat continues, with Auntie On Deamnd now landing on the trio of Goodmans, Grundig and Bush Freesat boxes, right from this very day. Unfortunately though, the earliest models will be missing out, and you’ll have to pay for a replacement.
BBC iPlayer has been available on Freesat boxes since late last year, but for the first time, you’ll now be able to stream Auntie on demand without the need for an ethernet cable. TechniSat’s just turned on BBC iPlayer for its Wi-Fi infused HDFS Freesat box, letting you take your set top box off the leash – or at least away from the router.
