While the iPad 3 will be put together by human hands, future iPad models could be assembled entirely by robots if new plans from Foxconn come to pass. The manufacturer which currently puts together most of Apple’s iPhone and iPad production runs, wants to introduce 1 million robots into its factories over the next three years.

Foxconn already has 10,000 robots in service but its founder and chairman, Terry Gou, revealed the plan to vastly increase its automated army and cut costs in a speech to workers. The new robots will take over tasks like spraying, welding and assembly which are currently done by humans. In a particularly cheery touch, Gou apparently made the announcement just before an employee dance party. Presumably no one felt like doing the robot after hearing the news.

It’s been a big week for Amazon Android tablet rumours with reports yesterday that we’ll see the first model in October. Now whispers are reaching us from the Far East that Foxconn is in the frame to build Amazon’s second Android tablet.

While the manufacturer is best known for its deals building Apple hardware including the iPad 2 and iPhone 4, it also said to be on course to pump out 12 million units of the Amazon Kindle this year…

Report: Foxconn explosion can’t stop the Apple iPad 2Industry insider elite DigiTimes has just published a report which suggests the recent explosion at Foxconn Electronics’ plant in Chengdu, China will not be enough for the competition to gain ground on the iPad 2. Instead, Apple has a chance to make up for the losses by ramping up production 50 percent in the second half of 2011. Additionally, the Foxconn Chengdu plant only shipped 1.6 million iPad 2s through April, less than 30 percent of Apple’s worldwide shipments.

It’s a safe bet that iPad 2 will slip into view in early 2011 and whispers from individuals claiming to have knowledge of Apple’s supply chain say February is looking likely. iPad 2 rumours emerging from Apple supplier Foxconn suggest it’ll ship between 400,000 and 600,000 iPad 2 units within the next 100 days. We’ve come up with an iPad 2 wishlist and discussed what we know about iPad 2 features already but what we want now is to see the blighter. Worth waiting for an iPad until after Christmas?
