A source claims to have seen the fabled standalone Apple TV set, and it looks like a huge Cinema Display, if they’re to be believed. It also has an iSight camera built-in for FaceTime video calls, and Siri, Apple’s voice-activated virtual assistant seen on the iPhone 4S.

FaceTime is set to fly onto your TV screen with iOS 5. iPhone owners playing around with iOS 5 beta 3 have discovered that includes FaceTime AirPlay mirroring.

The feature means with an Apple TV or other AirPlay-enabled device hooked up to the screen in your living room, you’ll be able to beam the image from a FaceTime call to it.

As you can see from the picture above, the VGA resolution of the iPhone 4′s front-facing camera looks a little bit blocky blown up on the big screen but an upgraded sensor for the iPhone 5 could easily fix that. Even without it, using AirPlay to create a FaceTime TV is just really nifty.

The bug doesn’t affect every iPad 2 but it appears to be down to an iOS issue that should be relatively simple to fix. According to iPad 2 user reports, you need to restart to unfreeze the camera. Hopefully we’ll see a fix in time for the iPad 2′s UK debut tomorrow.
