E3, the world’s largest videogame trade show has been running in Los Angeles this week. And from a damp squib that was described as being like a “hospital corridor” (by Sega’s US boss) last year, E3 2009 has cooked up a storm. Left 4 Dead fans are apparently so angry at Valve Software’s announcement of a sequel that they’re threatening to boycott any purchase of the game. Over 4,000 fans (as of time of posting) have signed up to a group on Valve Software’s Steam game deliver and social networking system called “L4D2 Boycott”.
If Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker weren’t enough, Hideo Kojima has announced that he is also working on Metal Gear Arcade and Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow.
The Nintendo Wii “Your Shape” fitness game, announced by Ubisoft at E3, will ship with a camera that tracks your body shape and movements, so you don’t need a controller to get fit. The new camera for the Wii and our ‘Body Tracking’ technology means Your Shape will offer an experience that is a breakthrough in gaming, as well as in the fitness category,” said Yves Guillemot, CEO, Ubisoft.
PixelJunk Monsters is getting a dedicated PSP incarnation in the form of PixelJunk Monster Deluxe. Anyone who played the original on PS3 will find it pretty recognisable, as it contains all the levels from PixelJunk Monsters and its expansion, Encore. Sony’s showing off the game on its brand new PSP Go console at E3, and it’s looking very fine indeed. Read on for more details:
FIFA 10 has just been unveiled, and while we’ve had a quick kick around on the beautiful game already, we wanted to know more about what’s going on behind the scenes and inside the game engine that makes EA’s effort this season worth the upgrade. We sat down with the producer of FIFA 10, David Rutter, to find out what features made the team, and what flaws from FIFA 09 have been sent for an early shower this time.
Team ICO’s mystery PS3 project was finally aired at yesterday’s Sony E3 press conference. The Last Guardian is the third in the trilogy, which so far contains Ico and Shadow of the Colossus – two critically acclaimed PS2 titles known for their powerful storytelling and sublime art direction. E3 attendees were treated to a long video teaser of The Last Guardian and its new protagonists – a young boy and a great big beastie that looks like a jackal with the body of a vulture. Or something.
Here are the two words that every Nintendo fan wanted to hear during the E3 press conference: New Zelda. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t say them… but Shigeru Miyamoto did! The father of Mario and Zelda told an invite-only developer event that he hoped a new Zelda would be announced next year.
