The Wii U will use proprietary discs packing 25GB of data, almost exactly the same size as Blu-ray discs, but don’t expect it to play them or DVDs for that matter. Just like the Wii before it, the Wii U is shunning both formats entirely.

Universal Studios is hoping to tempt over Blu-ray refuseniks with its new dual spec discs. The Flipper format features a high def Blu-ray disc on one side and a regular DVD version on the other for the best of both worlds.
