Mass Effect, the space opera role-playing action game, could be about to get extra downloadable content for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and possibly PC. Despite Mass Effect 2 being in full production, the game’s developers BioWare are hinting that there will be an announcement imminently, and a pulled listing for Mass Effect on the Microsoft Xbox 360′s Xbox Live Games On Demand pages seems to confirm the news.
LittleBigPlanet for the Sony PS3 (and PSP this year) is to get downloadable content updates from a series of famous graphic artists. Mike Mignola, creator and artist for the Hellboy comics, as well as John Burgerman who worked on Sony PSP game WipEout Pure, and 2000AD artists are already scheduled to produce levels and items for download into LittleBigPlanet.
The Microsoft Xbox 360 is hosting its annual, online, virtual festival “Xtival” this weekend. From noon 1 to noon 4 May, Xbox Live online service Gold membership benefits will be available to all Microsoft Xbox 360 owners. As well as free Gold Xbox Live membership, Microsoft says the festival will feature: “competitions and tournaments, and loads of exclusive HD movies, music and game downloads.”
Sony has started charging PS3 developers to host additional “downloadable content”, or DLC, for their games on the PlayStation Network. In doing so, Sony has added an extra cost for developers not incurred by the same games on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Xbox Live service.
Will this lead to developers choosing to host more content on the Microsoft Xbox 360′s online service than the Sony PS3′s? Almost certainly.
