Increasing awareness about energy awareness and going green is a great idea but we’re not so sure creating a video that recalls N-Dubz and Goldie Looking Chain is the best way to spread the word.

A group of Dixons employees have recast themselves as the Dix Green Collective in a spot for the electrical retailer that puts eco advice into rap form and it’s more than a little bit painful. Check it out after the break to see the “Dixons mandem” in action.

Our favourite lyric? “These polar bears ain’t got nowhere to live, so turn off the lights mate, don’t be a div.” It may be “all about the green” but we’re all about the lorry driver throwing hip hop hand signals like a confused uncle at a wedding…

The Advent Vega was released to a storm of good reviews (including one from us here at Electricpig). It was a cheap, basic Android tablet that worked. Then it all went a bit wonky as the Flash plugin turned out not to be properly certified by Adobe, and so Advent had to yank the Vega’s Flash skills from then on – a pity, since it worked just fine in our testing.

There’s now a download available for people who ended up with an Advent Vega sans Flash, but there’s a new version of the Advent Vega with certified Flash pre-installed too. The difference? A fiver. That’s for the inconvenience of having to plug in and download an update when you get home. Fair or not? Read on…

The Asus Eee Slate was another form factor we thought looked a bit odd at the Asus press conference. Up on stage, this 12.1 inch tablet looked ridiculously big, clunky, and too awkward to have hanging around even just for the sofa. In the flesh, it’s not as big as it looked, and Windows 7 gives it a bit of extra oomph. Click through for more photos.

The Asus Eee Pad MeMo is a smaller tablet, that’s in the seven inch form factor along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Like the Galaxy Tab though, we can’t quite imagine what the Asus Eee Pad MeMo is for, despite it having a phone function. Click through for a full gallery and short video demo.

We’ve just got out of the scrum around Asus to get hands on with one of its tablet netbook crossovers the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. We’ve had a play with the keyboard and touchscreen, that come apart so you can have a netbook setup or a straight tablet. We’re sorry Asus, but we’re just not sure about the durability of the mechanism on this one. Click through for more photos.

Illuminus T9 Android tablet: Our favourite iPad knock off yet

The Illuminus T9 Android tablet on show at CES today is easily our favourite iPad aping tablet so far, simply because it mimics the sturdy aluminium build of Apple’s slate so well. It runs Android 2.2 on top of a 1GHz CPU, with HDMI and USB out, up to 32GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, and sports a rather splendid 1280×768 resolution 8.9-inch screen.

It’s slightly thicker than an iPad, but the Illuminus T9 Android tablet is every bit as robust, even if it is missing the core Google apps right now. It’s out in Q2 in South Korea and the US, priced up at $500 (£320). Will it rival the likes of the Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab? Click on through for the photos.
