Good news for Spotify this morning. It’s hit 1 million subscribers in Europe and boy is Spotify founder Daniel Ek happy. He says: “It seems like only yesterday we were hatching ideas for a new music service in a tiny office-cum-apartment with a broken coffee machine, and the party we threw having reached one million users almost two years ago today was one to remember.”

“It’s with a sense of real pride and excitement that we can announce a new milestone today, having welcomed our millionth paying subscriber to the service. From everyone at Spotify, we’d like to give you all massive thanks. We’ll continue to focus on providing you with the best music service possible, and look forward to adding even more cool new features over the coming months. What’s really exciting is that this is only the beginning.”

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek rocked up to the D: Dive Into Mobile conference (it’s what all the cool kids are doing) and told the crowd that Spotify US is still on track but couldn’t say when it will launch. What he did confirm though is that Spotify US will come in at $10 a month which would make it marginally cheaper than the current standard Spotify subscription in the UK. Why’s Spotify US stalled right now? Ek says it’s all down to the record industry and the “complex deals” it requires rather than Spotify losses problems. We’re not so sure…

iTunes will follow Spotify into the cloud, according to Spotify boss Daniel Ek speaking at SXSW. The Spotify head honcho also revealed how much bandwidth the music streaming service chews through and updated the officially disclosed number of paid Spotify subscribers.
