Sony’s PSP console has long suffered from the effects of piracy, thanks to loopholes in the console’s security and teams of dedicated hackers ready to exploit them. Sony’s Peter Dille has described how this has affected the PSP software business, calling the levels of piracy “frankly sickening” and admitted that the number of PSP games being distributed on peer-to-peer file-sharing networks has had a devastating effect on the development community.

You can always trust EVE Online to provide a good scandal. The MMO / Virtual World / economics toy is now approaching its sixth year of life and still proving its ability to surprise players with its emergent gameplay shenanigans.

This week, a former investments manager at the in-game Dynasty Banking organisation, called Xabier, disappeared with over 80 billion ISK, the game’s currency. In real money terms, it’s thought to be worth around £1,850.

Remember how we warned you that fake and potentially lethal DS consoles were winging their way to the UK? Well, it looks like some of them slipped through Customs and showed up on eBay. However, a raid led by Bromley Trading Standards Department and Kent police resulted in the seizure of 40 counterfeit consoles, along with 150 dodgy games. This raid is the first of its kind ever to take place in the UK.

A man who had his iPhone stolen has been able to recover it thanks to Apple’s MobileMe service and some simple detective work. Rather like last week’s tale of the student who tracked down a stolen Xbox 360 using a wireless controller, ‘Rob’  was able to turn the stolen technology against the thief. Read more
