Crackdown 2 won’t be bounding its way to UK stores till July 9th. But that didn’t stop us getting our hands all over the highly-anticipated sequel to the Xbox 360 classic at a secret preview.
Crackdown 1.5 is already in development and could be out in the first few months of 2010, say rumourmongers. The original Crackdown is still one of the finest exclusives on the Xbox 360, so the continued absence of a sequel is rather peculiar. Newly-formed Scottish developer Ruffian Games is believed to be the developer behind the multiplayer-focussed semi-sequel.
Crackdown is one of the best Xbox 360 games so far, but although you’d expect a sequel to quickly follow a successful new IP, Crackdown 2 has barely got a mention from official channels. Developer Realtime Worlds instead jumped from Crackdown to begin work on a more ambitious project, an MMO-like game called APB. Now though, there seems to be a good chance of a Crackdown sequel showing up as key members from the original Crackdown team have moved on to form a new studio, Ruffian Games.
