Yesterday we told you Motorola had scrapped plans to bring the Droid 3, better known as the Milestone 3, to the UK. Following confirmation by Clove, the retailer came forward with a rather somber announcement: the Motorola Pro will be manufacturer’s next hardware QWERTY solution for the UK.
An aging Milestone 2 is no laughing matter. While it might seem arcane for some, there are Android users who not only want, but rely on a physical keyboard. Unfortunately the landscape-oriented five-row QWERTY keyboard of the Motorola Droid 3 will not be it, at least not in the UK.
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, it’s that time for your evening tech news round up. In today’s US Update we get to the bottom of the Xbox 360 portable rumors, preview Nokia’s MeeGo announcement, track down the Milestone 3, update the Samsung Apple lawsuit and wrap up with a look at the secrets behind the Nokia N8 optics.
Despite what you’ve heard, Microsoft has no plans of releasing a portable Xbox 360 console. The company has gone on record to state the future of Xbox gaming on-the-go begins and ends with Windows Phone. At Nokia Connection 2011 an unnamed MeeGo device is expected to headline the show. The odds on favorite is the Nokia N9.
The first five-row QWERTY keyboard to grace the Motorola Droid line will reportedly remain stateside. Despite having every reason to believe a third-generation Motorola Milestone would grace both Europe and the UK, online retailer Clove has no plans to carry such device.
Clove has not provided an explanation for why there will not be a Milestone 3, but as geeky-gadgets points out, slow Milestone 2 sales might be to blame. The news is far from official, but should the news come to fruition, here’s your fair warning.
The Samsung Galaxy S 2 has given pricing and release date information for the UK. Over on Clove UK, the retailer has come forward with what it believes is accurate pricing: 16GB for £510 plus VAT and 32GB for £590 plus VAT. Meanwhile, Play.com has the 16GB listed at £599.99 with free delivery. Both retailers have pegged the next generation smartphones for a late March release.
