OK, so we know that Bungie doesn’t make Halo games anymore, but the developer was the brains and brawn behind much of the hugely successful Xbox flagship title’s history. With such a massive franchise under its belt, you can expect the world’s eyes to be upon your next big gaming series. Will ‘Destiny’, which has been revealed in an Activision contract, live up to that expectation? Read more

Though its waved goodbye to Halo, Bungie is still hard at work and the first product of its Bungie Aerospace project to work with independent developers will be with us next week. Crimson: Steam Pirates is set to sail onto the iPad for free on September 1. It’s a turn-based strategy title in which you control a crew of steampunk pirates plundering their way around the Caribbean.

The first chapter of Crimson: Steam Pirates will arrive with eight missions and two multiplayer maps along with Bungie.net and Facebook integration. More episodes are set for release but you’ll have to stump up some booty for them. UK pricing hasn’t been released yet but Chapter 2, which is due immediately after the games release, will cost a reasonable $1.99 in the US. Sadly there’s no word on an iPhone version of the game yet.

Here’s a nice bit of Friday entertainment: Bungie has released a documentary, O Brave New World, charting its twenty year from packaging copies of Pathways Into Darkness by hand to conquering gaming with Halo.

The 55 minute film, which you can watch after the break, commemorates the studio handing over Halo development to 343 Industries and includes some glimpses of Bungie at work on its next game, an MMO for Activision.

A new symbol which seems to relate to that new Bungie universe pops up throughout the documentary and appears again at the very end to tease us. Click through to take a look for yourself and hit the comments to share your Halo memories and what you want Bungie to do next…

Hurrah! More Halo: Reach DLC is hitting planet Earth on March 15. The Defiant Map Pack will come with two new versus maps (Condemned and Highlands) and one Firefight map (Unearthed). The new maps have been made by Certain Affinity and 343 Industries.

Condemned is set in an orbital space station overlooking reach while the Covenant attacks it. It sounds frankly awesome. The new Halo: Reach DLC will set you back 800 MS points when it arrives and earn you an extra 150 Achievement points as part of the deal. See our original Halo: Reach review here.
