HTC is on a spending spree. After snapping up cloud company Dashwire last week, it has announced that it has acquired a majority stake in Beats Electronics, the creators of the Beats By Dre headphones line. The $300m deal will see HTC putting Beats audio technology into future devices.
HTC CEO Peter Chou says: “We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that.” The first HTC product with Beats tech is due for release later this year but HTC hasn’t revealed any other details yet.
Beats Electronics current deal with HP, which puts Beats audio into PCs and the HP TouchPad, will continue but HTC will have exclusive use of the technology for phones.
