Newsflash: the world is moving towards a time when NFC and contactless payments are the norm. What’s more, Barclaycard claims that “more than half of contactless transactions by 2016 will be made using a mobile phone.” But where does that leave us in the here and now? After O2′s foray into the world of finance last year, Orange is following suit, teaming up with Barclaycard to unveil a new Orange Credit Card. The all new plastic rocks contactless payment tech, as well as some clever features to keep you worryingly up to date on your spending habits.
O2’s just revealed the results of its first NFC trial, letting phone-wielders pay for things using the wireless power of their mobiles. The next phase, it says, is to shove the technology into SIM cards, so more phones can be used as a mobile wallet.
