Actually, don’t bother. If you have a New Xbox Experience avatar that you are quite fond of, though, you can now start to use it to express your oh-so-quirky personality on social networking sites using a free tool from Microsoft.

By now, most Xbox 360 owners have probably had the chance to spend time tinkering with the New Xbox Experience update. It’s a radical reimagining of the console’s interface and has added a load of new features, including the oft-debated Avatars. But if you’ve only spent time customising your new character and ripping Gears of War 2 to the hard drive, then you might have missed some of the other less well-know features. Don Mattrick, Microsoft Xbox’s new Senior Vice President has claimed that he “invented avatars”. In an interview conducted at E3, but only just released, Mattrick goes on to pinpoint the moment when humanoid, controllable figures with faces in 3D were first used.
Microsoft has proved the internet rumour-mill correct and officially announced that the New Xbox Experience (NXE) will go live on November 19th.
NXE is the latest Xbox 360 Dashboard overhaul and the most ambitious so far. Apart from a major visual overhaul, the update will add new player Avatars, a Friends channel and an option to install games to the hard drive for faster load times.
