Intel and Google have set the stage for a shake up in the Android Honeycomb tablet scene. A report from PCWorld confirms Intel is working with Google to bring low-powered Atom chips, code-named Oak Trail, to the world of Honeycomb. With Intel’s Atom chips powering the Google TV and Cr-48 laptops, tablets are the next logical progression.
Intel has just unveiled the plans for its Atom line of chips, commonly found stuffed inside today’s netbooks, and they’re a little bit tasty. As well as outing a concept laptop just 14mm thin, the silicon giant revealed new tablet and netbook hardware is in the works for MeeGo, the mobile software it’s been knocking together with Nokia.
MSI has laid bare the full specifications of three of its latest laptops, including the brand new MSI Wind U123. MSI’s new netbook isn’t reinventing the wheel but does include a few intriguing upgrades including Intel’s latest Atom processor, 3G connectivity and a TV tuner.
Intel may be getting all the headlines with its low cost, low power Atom chip, but Via reckons its Nano competitor is more than a match in the number crunching stakes. So much so, it’s put together the video equivalent of trash talk by pitting the two machines against each other on film.
In a world that’s a wash with tiny laptops there’s one sure fire way to stand out – go cute. The LuvBook from Mouse Computer may not be all that different from the competition, but it does sound adorable.
