Firefox-Android-Honeycomb

Mozilla is hard at work on Firefox for Android Honeycomb and Ian Barlow, one of the design team working on the project, has revealed a sneak peek at what it’ll look like. Following on from Firefox for Android, the new version takes advantage of the extra screen real estate with tabs optimised for landscape and portrait. In landscape mode, the tabs stay put in a sidebar while in portrait they’re in a drop-down menu to save space.

While it’s still early days for the Firefox Android Honeycomb UI, it mimics the rest of the OS’s minimalist design while packing in familiar features. The Awesomebar makes the jump to tablets but with its tabs moved into a left hand column to leave more space for bookmarks and your history.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider has lived up to its name so far with a release date that just keep sliding back. But it looks like the QWERTY-packing tablet will finally arrive next month. Notebook Italia reports that it will launch in Italy in September, which would strongly suggest it’ll hit the UK then too, and Asus has updated the Eee Pad Slider product page to offer concrete specs.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider will ship with Android Honeycomb 3.1 onboard and an Android 3.2 update promised after launch. Contrary to previous reports there will be a choice of 16GB or 32GB of storage. Whatever model you opt for, it’ll pack a 1280×800 WXGA display, a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1GB memory, a 5MP rear camera, 1.2MP front-facing camera, USB 2.0, mini-HDMI, a microSD card reader, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Most intriguingly for our newly iCloud-obssessed world, Asus says the Eee Pad Slider will come with a year’s free unlimited cloud storage via Asus WebStorage.

Check out our Asus Eee Pad Slider preview and rundown of the Android tablets it’ll compete with while we await confirmation of the tablet’s ETA.

lg gslateYour favorite 8.9-inch Android tablet, the LG G-Slate, should start to see an Android 3.1 Honeycomb update roll out today. Over on the LG Forum, a forum moderator by the name of LG Product Pro broke the news yesterday saying “the update should start pushing out today or tomorrow.” The Android 3.1 Honeycomb update had been expected since late June.

At the time of publishing this report, no users of the LG forum had reported receiving the over-the-air (OTA) update. With the Motorola Xoom receiving its Android 3.2 update last week, the LG G-Slate desperately needs to keep pace. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for a manual download link, but if you happen to receive the OTA update notification, please do let us know.
