Let’s just move on from the Duke Nukem Forever taking forever puns, shall we? They were old long before Gearbox took control of the franchise and rescued it from development limbo. Hell, they were old a decade ago.

The problem with Duke Nukem Forever isn’t that the subject matter is tasteless. It’s that this shooter urinates on the memory of the series a whole generation held dear, through sheer banality. Kind of ironic, since Duke pissing is exactly how the game opens.

Duke Nukem Forever looked like it was dead and buried, taking an estimated $20m of development money with it, but we should have guessed the Duke wouldn’t go down without a fight. Developer 3D Realms has struck out against the recent Take-Two lawsuit, calling it a “bully tactic”, and has promised to defend itself and the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise.

Duke Nukem Forever’s original developers, 3D Realms, may be gone for ever. They closed their doors finally this month. But that won’t stop Take-Two interactive, potential publishers of Duke Nukem Forever, from extracting their pound of flesh. Take-Two has filed a claim with a New York state court for breach of contract over $12 million paid to 3D Realms for developing the game.
