After a leak from Viewsonic earlier today that Android 2.4 will be arriving in April, and will still be called Android Gingerbread, Viewsonic has also revealed that it will be showing off an Android 2.4 device next week at Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona. Viewsonic will be launching a mystery device that runs Android 2.4, the update to Android 2.3, which adds support for dual core apps from Android Honeycomb.

We’ll be getting hands on with the new device, and with the new version of Android, this time next week, so tune in for our first impressions.

Android 2.4, the next iteration of Android after Android Gingerbread 2.3, could be arriving as soon as April. Hardware specs for Android tablets getting an Android Honeycomb update have leaked, despite there being no official announcement about the next Android OS. It means that the Samsung Galaxy Tab will not qualify for Android Honeycomb, and so won’t be getting an upgrade.

Android Honeycomb 2.4 not 3.0?

Android Honeycomb, the Android 3.0 we’ve been expecting after Christmas, could in fact be 2.4, potentially pushing back the release of the 3.0 to later in the year. As it stands, Android Honeycomb still looks like it’s the first Android build for tablets, but that the Android 3.0 tag is being saved “for something big”.
