The Samsung N310 netbook comes with a 160GB hard drive, which is large enough to carry all your programs, as well as wealth of music, photos and videos. As with any portable, it’s essential you regularly make a backup of this data, so if the worst should happen and you lose your Samsung N310, the most valuable part – your data – is safe.
No one likes backing up their hard drive, until it’s too late, though. With this in mind, Samsung has pre-installed a fantastic utility, the Samsung Recovery Solution III, which is an easy way to backup the netbook’s hard drive.
When you load up Samsung Recovery Solution III, you’ll be presented with the option to Restore or Backup your data. You’ll also see a box marked Select by Symptom, which is a wizard-based app that helps you identify potential problems on your netbook.

As we’re backing up the N310′s hard drive, choose the right-hand option Backup by clicking on it. This will take you through to a second screen, where you can can choose to make a Complete Backup of the netbook’s image or simply to make a Data Backup. Both should be performed as part of routine maintenance but in this instance, once again, choose the right-hand option.
The next dialogue screen offers a further two options – Basic and Advanced. The most basic backup will backup all the data from four specific areas – My Documents, Desktop, Email or Favourites. This method is good for those who are not sure what they need to back up, as it will gather everything together.
The more advanced method allows you to Select From All, and is only intended for use by experienced users, or those who store their files in a variety of different locations. No matter what which method you choose, the next screen asks you the location of where you wish to make the backup to.

Backups can be saved to a second ‘virtual drive’ on the N310 but for the best results we suggest sending it to an external source, such as a portable hard drive.. Whichever method you choose, highlight it from drop down menu.
Once you click the Next button you’ll be asked if you really want to carry out the backup, click Yes and your Samsung N310 will perform the backup automatically. As Samsung Recovery Solution III is part of a set of recovery tools, any data that is backed up using this software can also be quickly restored.
