Sony hasn’t just created the best pictures with Motionflow 200Hz, it’s created a world record breaking new technology!
Motionflow 200Hz itself is the world’s first 200Hz TV technology, beating rival manufacturers with super-slick image processing that polishes pictures like never before. But that’s not all.
To create the iconic TV advert for Motionflow 200Hz, Sony built the world’s largest zoetrope measuring 10 metres across and weighing 10 tonnes. The Guinness Book of World Records has declared the supersized zoetrope a world first, taking its inspiration from a 19th Century toy designed to create short animations by adding more and more frames at high speed.
That’s exactly what Motionflow 200Hz does, analysing each frame of footage that is fed into it, and adding up to four extra frames between the existing ones to create smooth motion and reduce jagged movement.
Take a look at the Bravia-drome zoetrope in the finished advert below, and you’ll see how Sony uses extra frames and speed to deliver the smoothest on-screen performance ever.
The Bravia-drome took Sony six days to build in a square in Venaria, near Turin, and stars FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d’Or holder, Kaká. At full speed, the Bravia-drome can reach speeds of over 50kph. That also makes it the world’s fastest zoetrope! Stand back, and see it in action below.
