The whole point of having an ultra-portable netbook, is that you can use it almost anywhere. Of course wireless technology is a major factor in this, because with Wi-Fi hotpsots in pubs, bars stations, etc, you can almost always connect to the Internet. The Samsung N310 has Windows XP pre-installed, and although this supports Wireless connections, the interface is not the best, and it can often be difficult to add a new connection or manage your existing ones. This is why the N310 comes with Samsung Easy Network Manager, to make connecting to a new wireless access point as simple as possible.
Easy Network manager enables you to add multiple locations, such as home, office, cafe, etc. So that you can easily switch between wireless profiles, without having to add new details each time. The first time you start the program, you will need to enter a new location, by clicking the add button. There are a number of icons to choose from, to symbolise the type of connection, such as home, library, office and so on, although you can also add a text label to describe the network location.
The next step is to choose your connection type, and there are three to choose from. The default is the most common; a direct connection to a wireless access point, but you can also chose from either a shared connection, such as when you connect to another PC that has a wireless connection and is using Internet connection sharing or when a computer has more than one network connection and can share one of those.
In a majority of cases, you will elect to have an IP address assigned to your N310 automatically, but if you need to enter custom settings, and have been provided with the relevant details, you can enter a fixed IP address, subnet mask, gateway address and DNS server address. The last part of the setup process is to choose a printer, which can either be a local printer connected to your netbook, or one shared on a network.
To change from one network profile to another, you simply click on the appropriate icon, and click move. After a few seconds, the new settings will be applied and you will be connected to the new network. Should you have any connection issues, simply click on the diagnosis button to have Easy Network manager analysis your connection and suggest a solution.
