Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, Electricpig has been a bit wobbly today, so we thought it’d help to clue you in. Read on, and get the full lowdown on changes behind the scenes.
Just before Christmas, we became aware of a problem in Electricpig’s innards. It’s not serious enough to bring the site to a halt, and we’ve soldiered on through record levels of traffic just fine. However, it’s a problem that needs fixing. From time to time it stops everything working perfectly.
Since Electricpig has grown, it’s become an intricate beast, and one loose cog inevitably ends up causing problems elsewhere.
This week we’re tinkering behind the scenes to find out exactly what’s wrong. Today we started testing parts of the site one by one, which is why you might’ve noticed features appearing, or disappearing as we judge them innocent or guilty. The search bar, some re-directed links, and even the buttons to move backwards and forwards through lists of news are all being scrutinised, with no stone left unturned until we find the problem.
Under normal circumstances we would do this on a separate test site, but since the nature of Electricpig’s ailment seems related to the traffic it receives, that’s not an option this time.
Bear with us, and we’ll have the Pig back to rude health, and kicking news, reviews and features in your direction as soon as possible. In the meantime, treat it with kid gloves, and don’t be too surprised if it’s quirkier than usual for a short while.
