The LG Viewty Smart is more than a cameraphone, it’s a fully fledged video recorder, and with easy to use S-Class software inside, it’s ready to capture events in tip-top quality, edit them to perfection and even share them with your friends.
If you’ve used the Viewty Smart’s camera application you’ll have noticed the simple switch to flick it into video mode, but that’s just scratching the surface. Read on, and we’ll show you how the Viewty Smart uses the power of S-Class to turn you into the next Spielberg.
Step 1: Master the controls
S-Class makes manhandling video controls an absolute doddle. Dive into the LG Viewty Smart’s camera application and move the slider on the right of the screen to choose video mode. To start recording, just tap the red record button, but once you’ve done that take note of the pause button that appears in the bottom right of the screen.
Tapping pause will let you stop recording without ending the clip. Tap it again, and the Viewty Smart will carry on recording. You can use it to add ‘takes’ to your filming without separating each into a separate file.
The other buttons to the left of the viewfinder will let you tweak exposure, switch the flash light on or off, or plunge in to Night mode. All three will give better results in low light.
When you’ve finished recording, just press the stop key. Your clips will be saved to the Viewty Smart’s gallery.

Step 2: Become a speed demon
So far, so neat, but the Viewty Smart doesn’t just record video at normal speeds. Because it’s running speedy S-Class software, it can capture footage at an eye-popping 120 frames per second too. That means footage will be packed with four times the information of a normal clip, letting you slow it down without the results looking jerky.
It’s a neat trick, and one that’s easy to pull off. Once you’re in video mode and ready to record, tap on the red and white arrow icon on the left of the screen. This will let you choose your recording speed. Choose slow, and the Viewty Smart will record clips at 120 frames per second, but play them back at 30 frames per second, so they appear in silky smooth slow motion.
Fancy speeding things up a little? Repeat the process, but choose Fast mode instead. Now you’ll find the LG Viewty Smart recording five frames per second. Play back your clip and you’ll see it’s captured scenes in time-lapse style.

Step 3: It’s all in the edit
Once you’ve recorded your clips the real fun begins. The S-Class software inside the LG Viewty Smart includes an easy to use, but fully featured video editor. Just tap into the image gallery and choose a clip. Start it playing and tap on the option button in the top left. Choose ‘Edit’ and you’ll be given a range of options.
Trim / Multi-trim lets you cut up clips and remove unwanted footage, while the Dimming effect adds a simple fade to footage. The real fun, however, is to be had with Video Merge. Tap it and you’ll be prompted to choose another clip and join them together. The LG Viewty Smart will put them side by side, and the result will be a jump cut from one to the other if you simply tap ‘Save’.
However, you can also add transitions between clips by tapping ‘Effect’ and picking from fades, dissolves and checkerboard styles. There are tons to choose from, and guaranteed to add style to your clips. Tap ‘Preview’ and you’ll see how they look before hitting ‘Save’.
Step 4: Filter aficionado
The best film makers know how to use filters and colour to full effect. You can add these in the video editor, but you can also apply them as you film footage, with the S-Class software easily applying effects as you shoot.
To add a filter, head into the video recorder and dive into the settings screen by tapping the cog icon to the bottom left of the viewfinder. Scroll the control wheel to Colour Effect and apply a filter, like Sepia tone or Mono colour.
Not enough for you? Scroll the wheel once more to adjust White Balance. This will let you adjust your filming for optimum conditions, changing the way colours a reproduced by the Viewty Smart’s camera and making sure whites stay white.
Step 5: Hold a premiere!
So you’ve shot some stellar footage, with or without filters, and edited it to perfection. Naturally, you want to show it off. That’s no problem, tap into the clip through the Viewty Smart’s Gallery and hit the option key in the top left of the screen.
Choose ‘Send’ and you’ll see the S-Class software has options to fire off your clip through an MMS, an e-mail message, or transfer the file to a friend’s phone using Bluetooth. If you want to show your creation to lots of people (or the world at large) you can also upload it direct to YouTube. It’s all super-fast, dead easy and guaranteed to make your mates jealous!
