LG’s latest mobiles use the S-Class software. It’s what makes the phone tick, and powers those whizzy spinning menus. But that’s not all it’s capable of. Used properly, S-Class has the power to turn your mobile into an all-powerful movie machine.

Become a DivX convert
The first step in loading movies onto an LG phone with S-Class, whether it’s an LG Arena or an LG Viewty Smart, is to convert them to DivX format. The LG Arena and Viewty Smart can both play other formats too, but DivX will give the best quality image, while using the least memory.
To convert your movies, simply install DivX Converter, which comes bundled with all S-Class mobile phones. Fire it up and you’ll see a small blue and silver window. Just drag your movies into it from any folder on your computer. You can even drag a bunch of them at once, and they’ll be converted one after the other.
Next click the blue arrows inside the DivX Converter window to choose the ‘mobile’ profile, hit the ‘Convert’ button and leave your computer to work its magic. When the conversion is done you’ll have a DivX video file that’ll work perfectly with S-Class. You’ll find it saved in your ‘My Videos’ folder under ‘DivX Movies.’

Load up on movies
Now you’ve got your movies converted you’ll need to load them onto your LG Arena, LG Viewty Smart or any other mobile phone running LG S-Class. It’s dead simple. Just connect the phone to your PC using the included USB cable.
You’ll see the S-Class software automatically recognises the PC and gives you a range of options. Choose ‘Mass Storage Mode’ and your phone will act as a hard drive. You’ll see it appear in My Computer on a Windows PC, or as an icon on the desktop of Macs.
Double click the icon and open up the ‘Videos’ folder. Drag the DivX files you created earlier into the window and they’ll copy themselves over. Now you can disconnect the phone.

Choose how you watch
So now you’ve got a phone stuffed full of films how do you watch them? Simple. Dive into the gallery and tap the video you want to watch. Rotate the phone into landscape mode and it’ll fill the screen, but that’s not all.
You can skip through videos by dragging the white dot on the duration bar at the top of the screen. If you’re watching in a hurry you can even speed up playback by tapping the 1x icon to the left of the duration bar.
But converting movies for LG Arena or Viewty Smart doesn’t just mean watching them on the small screen. Hook up the optional TV cable to your LG Arena or LG Viewty Smart and you’ll be able to send movies and sounds to the big screen: perfect if you’re stuck in a far-off hotel room and don’t fancy forking out for on-demand films.
If you’re in more cramped surroundings, however, you can be safe in the knowledge you’re getting the best mobile movie experience. All phones running S-Class software have Dolby Mobile technology inside. You’ll know it’s active when you see the Dolby logo at the bottom of the playback screen.
If you want a quick demonstration of the benefits of Dolby Mobile, jut tap the logo to switch it off. You’ll notice sound is less punchy, and even stereo feels less defined.
