The most hideous Champagne cooler on the planet
Top Champagne brand Veuve Cliquot might make a nice drop of bubbly, but they don’t seem to have a clue about what constitutes tasteful design. The firm’s new Globalight cooler, created in collaboration with designer Karim Rachid, is a portable Champagne cooler that bathes your bottle in soft pink light. Pink?! Maybe they were all plastered on the product when it came time to give the thumbs up.
Trainer vending machine hits London
In a move that stinks to high heaven of “publicity stunt”, Japanese trainer brand Onitsuka Tiger has wheeled out what it claims to be the UK’s first trainer vending machine. Based in Carnaby Street in London’s West End, the machine can hold 24 pairs of trainers in six sizes, and works at any time. Fancy a sparkling new pair of sneakers on the way back from a night on the tiles? No problem! The vending machines will apparently be rolling out throughout the country in the near future.

World’s first mecha-digital watch
You don’t see that much innovation in the watch world these days, but the Meccanico DG is a glowing exception: this chunky timepiece is the first digital watch to use all moving parts: the numbers are all mechanical rather than LED or LCD. Made by Swiss firm De Grisogono, it’s hewn from titanium and only 177 are being made. So we probably can’t afford one.
