Although we think that every tech-head secretly craves membership, the phenomena of ‘The Cult of Apple’ offers plenty of mileage for non-geeks who express complete disbelief that seemingly sane individuals can be reduced to gibbering wrecks just by a multinational corporation announcing a newer version of something it already sells. Apple worship has traditionally provided a rich vein for satire, and following yesterday’s new iPad announcement, the web’s funnymen have wasted no time in generating laughs – but for the first time since his death last October, Steve Jobs is now the butt of jokes.
If the rumours are to be believed, South Korean manufacturer LG is absolutely desperate to get the contract to produce the next Google Nexus device – as are several other notable firms, we would imagine. It’s not as outlandish an aspiration as you might imagine; according to ComScore’s latest figures, published today, LG is still the second-largest mobile vendor in the US, which could lend weight to the company’s claim.
However, Google’s decision is naturally going to taken into account prior products, and if the leaked LG Lucid is anything to go by, LG’s chances might be somewhat slim.
The PlayStation Move – Sony’s attempt at beating Nintendo at its motion-sensing game – has shipped 10.5 million units since its launch in September 2010, Sony has confirmed today.
