Microsoft Kinect makes your Xbox 360 into something else entirely. No longer is it the clumpy, whirring console exclusively for gamers willing to put up with endless red rings of death. Instead, it becomes the essential console for family gaming, making everything the Wii offers look, well, four years old. And it’s a software update’s throw from making the Xbox 360 the essential set top box, full stop.

Read our full Microsoft Kinect review to find out why we think it’s the gadget of the year.

The Sims 3 for console review

The Sims 3 is the latest console-based installment in EA’s world-conquering life simulation series, but it’s been conspicuously absent on consoles until now. Indeed, the new ports are lagging behind the PC edition by over a year. Does the addition of the much-hyped ‘Karma’ system – and the option to play from the comfort of your sofa – make up for this excruciating delay? Find out in our exclusive The Sims 3 review.

Minecraft review

A Minecraft review on Electricpig may seem a little strange. It is a resolutely independent game (essentially the product of one man’s imagination), is still in alpha and has the kind of blocky, retro graphics that will make the average Halo fan splutter with disgust. But for all its foibles and eccentricities, Minecraft is a phenomenon in both its single player and (slightly shaky) multiplayer guises.

Minecraft is one of those titles that become more than a game. It swallows up your time and sucks you into its world completely with the sheer force of its creativity. Available on PC, Mac and Linux for $9.95 (c.£12.70) now and $20 when the final version is released, it’s a truly impressive achievement. Read on to find out what all the fuss is about in our Minecraft review…

Fallout: New Vegas review

Fallout: New Vegas faces a challenge tougher than a Super Mutant on the powder. Previous post-apocalyptic installment Fallout 3 scooped awards across the board on release two years ago, and had fans’ hair falling out, not through radiation sickness, but simply because they played into old age. In the hands of a different developer, can the series continue its streak? We’ve been roaming the Mojave wastelands for the last fortnight to bring you our verdict: find out what we made of it in our full Fallout: New Vegas review.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I Review

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, or Sonic 4 to more impatient fans of the spiky blue bolt, is Sega’s bold attempt to restore some of its beleaguered mascot’s pride after close to two decades of underachievement and disappointment. Strap on your red sneakers because we’re about to find out in our Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I review.

Medal of Honor review

EA’s latest instalment in the long-running Medal of Honor series is notable for two things: firstly, it’s a dramatic reboot of the franchise, moving the action from 1940s Europe to modern-day Afghanistan, and secondly, it’s caused more controversy than a Lady Gaga outfit. Of course, the biggest question is how it compares to the seemingly unassailable Modern Warfare 2. Read on to find the answer in our full Medal of Honor review.
