Sony XBR8 LED TV
It looks like picture quality on Sony's Bravia HDTV range is about to get a major kick up the backside: leaked plans show that the firm is gearing up to launch XBR8 series LED backlit screens later this year. LED backlighting provides a massive improvement in contrast ratio and black reproduction, so we can't wait to cast our eyes over these new offerings - if and when they hit the UK. Both models will also support DLNA media sharing too, so they should be able to stream videos and music from other DLNA devices. Out TBC | £TBC Sony (via Boy Genius Report)

BBC iPlayer PS3
There’s been no official deal between Sony and the BBC, but a gifted PS3 fanboy has worked out how to hack his beloved console to watch the Beeb’s popular catch-up TV service. Wii owners have been enjoying top BBC shows since Nintendo struck a deal to host the service, but there’s been no word of Sony doing the same, prompting one PS3 gamer to write the additional code himself. Hitachi UT32MH70
UPDATE: Fancy getting your own hands on Hitachi's super-slim telly? We've got good news: the 37 and 42 inch models will be available this month, and the optional tuner hits shelves in September.
We've managed to get our sweaty paws on an early sample of the UT32MH70, which has got to be the skinniest television in Europe right now - it's just 35mm thin (as you can see from the second picture above), which is less than half the thickness of most 32-inch LCD TVs. Read more

Shuttle XPC G5 6801M
Small PCs are Shuttle's specialty, and the firm has just shunted out its first Blu-ray compatible model. The XPC G5 6801M is an aluminium-clad cube that spins both hi-def formats (yup, poor old HD DVD too) and hooks up to an HD ready screen or projector via HDMI. There's a decent processor and graphics card too, as well as a TV tuner. Out now | £988 Shuttle (via BIOS)

You can hook it up with your PSP too!

Sony has just unwrapped its latest Blu-ray recorder for the Japanese market, and it's a bit of a corker. Not only can the BDZ-A70 record shows to both Blu-ray and a 320GB hard drive, it can also hook up to PSPs and some Walkmans, transferring over video data at the push of a single button. Let's hope Sony shows the UK some similar love and brings it here next.

Out TBC | £850 in Japan

Bravia E4000
Sony has just ripped the covers off yet another range of televisions: exhibit A is the Bravia E4000 series, consisting of 32 and 40-inch models designed specifically for wall mounting. They've got a narrow frame - available in four different colours - and a low-profile look, y'see, so they don't jut out several inches from your wall. Read more
