Red Ray
Heard of 4K before? Essentially it's an ultra-high end form of hi-def that delivers movies with over four times the detail of 1080p. Yep, that's right: that's four times the quality of Blu-ray! Well, RED has just shown off its Red-Ray player, which delivers 4K and any resolution below it, playing video off specially made discs (Blu-ray isn't compatible) or from a Compact Flash card. Obviously you'll need a compatible screen or projector too - and there aren't many of those around - but in any case the unit won't arrive until early 2009 at the earliest. Pricing and specs haven't been confirmed yet either, but expect both to be high! Out 2009 | £TBC RED (via Tom's Hardware)
Loewe Blu-ray player
With Blu-ray's HD format war victory assured, it's time for every manufacturer and its mother to deliver some hi-def disc lovin' action. This week it's the turn of ultra-swanky German firm Loewe, which has just rolled out its first ever hi-def player - and the good folks at TrustedReviews have run the rule over it already. Like all Loewe gear the BluTech Vision is quite expensive and looks the canine's cojones, but surprisingly it only conforms to Blu-ray Profile 1.0, which means limited interactive features. Sounds like it gets all the picture quality basics right, mind you - hit the link below for the full review. Out now | £795 Loewe (via TrustedReviews)

Sagem ITD58NG ECO
Set-top TV boxes are notoriously eco-unfriendly, doubling your TV’s energy consumption and continuing to guzzle electricity in sleep mode. This has prompted Sagem to put out two models that consume less than 5 watts each in operation and 2 watts in standby. Read more
