PlayStation Store firmware
PlayStation 3 owners, get yourselves online and grab the new firmware. Yep, the ver. 2.30 update we mentioned last week is out today, it's free, and it brings two blow-your-balls-off new features to Sony's next-gen console. The first is a revamped, slicker and easier to use PlayStation Store that makes downloading demos, trailers and full games a much less painful experience. The second is support for DTS-HD Master Audio ear candy - that's 7.1-channel lossless surround sound from any Blu-ray movies that support it. GTA4 on 29 April
Yesterday we flagged up a YouTube clip purporting to be the introductory sequence from GTA IV, but apparently it's fake: Tom Bramwell, editor of top gaming website Eurogamer, says that he's seen the actual intro movie and "it's nothing like that." Read more
Metal Gear Solid 4 headset
The gaming world is going a bit nuts over the upcoming PS3 title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and the latest piece of MGS-branded kit to appear on the radar is a Bluetooth headset. Suitably futuristic and Metal Gear-looking, the headset is primarily designed for use with the PS3, but would also work with a mobile phone if required. Whether you'd want to actually walk (sneak?) around wearing one is another matter entirely... Out June | £TBC Kojima Productions

There’s been no official deal between Sony and the BBC, but a gifted PS3 fanboy has worked out how to hack his beloved console to watch the Beeb’s popular catch-up TV service. Wii owners have been enjoying top BBC shows since Nintendo struck a deal to host the service, but there’s been no word of Sony doing the same, prompting one PS3 gamer to write the additional code himself. gta4-logo1.jpg
If we got our hands on an early copy of GTA IV we'd be playing it right now instead of writing this - but luckily not everyone is as selfish as us. Some fortunate wag has already bagged what appears to be a 100 percent legit copy of the Xbox 360 version and instead of sitting back and embarking on a killing spree, they've filmed the unboxing and intro sequence and stuck it up on YouTube. Talk about sharing the wealth... Read more

Is Nintendo gearing up to throw the wraps off an all-new version of its DS handheld console?
