The hints that a MacBook 3G is on the way are moving from subtle shoulder taps to sharp kicks to the shins. An AT&T boss let slip the US network might be trying to cook up a deal with Apple for mobile broadband in your MacBook a while back, but in the last fortnight we've heard rumours of a MacBook update at WWDC, seen an Apple Mac job posting for a 3G engineer and had tip offs from Snow Leopard developers that it's coming soon. But would you want a MacBook with 3G built in? Are you fine with cruising cafe Wi-Fi when you're out and about, or do you find yourself caught short? Facebook: all set to open its database to developers
Facebook is set to announce new plans to open its data banks to developers. It could unleash a wave of exciting new apps, and let users do more with the media they upload to the site. But is Facebook about to open a new can of privacy-concern? By opening up its databases, Facebook would allow photos, videos, notes and other media to be shared by third party applications. At present, all developers are allowed to access is your list of friends and the data you specifically tap into them. Under the new terms, your uploaded content will also be fair game. The Pirate Bay has lost its court case. Its admins have been slapped with a whopping great fine and a year of jail time each. We can almost hear the music, movie and software industries popping their collective champagne corks already, but the big question is, will The Pirate Bay's guilty verdict actually change anything? Peter Sunde, spokesman for The Pirate Bay, has already claimed that the site will continue to function in the event of a guilty verdict, and it's far from being the only file sharing site on the web. Since Apple showed off the iPhone OS 3.0 there's been chatter about what a new iPhone will offer, from an OLED screen to speedier 3G, a video camera and more capacity. The choices for daydreaming fanboys are endless, but we want a dose of realism. Thanks to iPhone OS 3.0 the new iPhone's unlikely to have too many new features that existing iPhone 3G and 2G handsets can't be gifted with new software.
