Big Issue! Big Issue! Big Issue?! No? Oh, well how about if you could read it online? The UK street stalwart is moving from print to digital after 21 years in circulation. And it’s doing it in quite an innovative way. Are you paying attention, print media?
The Big Issue, which has been sold on city streets by the UK’s homeless since 1991, is about to make the jump to your computer, phone or tablet by way of unique access cards.
For the same £2 as the print edition, you’ll be given a card with a URL, a QR code and a bespoke number. Scan the code or head to the URL, mash in your card’s digits and you’ll be able to access the full mag exactly as it would be in print.
The scheme is rolling out first in Manchester from Monday 29th October, and will spread around the UK after that. It’s an admirable, modern move for the mag – we wonder if any other big names will follow a similar scheme?
