Where are you in the chain of Android updates? Got Jelly Bean yet? Or still waiting on Ice Cream Sandwich? What if we told you that a new Nexus, and therefore a new Android iteration, was on its way? That’s exactly what may be the case, and it looks like HTC’s going to be the manufacturer behind it. Set your wallets to the ‘want’ position.
According to an anonymous source, HTC has been granted the contract to make the next Nexus phone, which will mark the launch of Android version 4.1.2. Whether that’s an iterative update to Jelly Bean or a leap up to the rumoured Key Lime Pie, remains unknown.
So what do we know? Well, the rumours point to a 5-inch handset with a quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, a 12-Meg camera and an iPhone-matching 64GB of storage.
HTC’s been on rare form recently, knocking its ‘One’ handset range out of the park and then going on to produce two of the better-looking Windows Phone handsets available – especially the flagship Windows Phone 8X.
Could it be HTC’s time in the Android spotlight, then? Well, with Samsung feeling the brunt of Apple lawsuits, maybe Google’s looking to spread its wings with Nexus partnerships.
