Is all this Apple stuff driving you mental? If you sit firmly in the Microsoft camp, you’re probably much more excited about the end of October, when Windows 8 lands. Eyeing up a Surface tablet? You’d best get applying for Microsoft jobs.
Just as with Windows Phone 7, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has revealed that some 90,000 full-time Microsoft employees will be rewarded for their work with a free Surface tablet and Windows Phone 8 handset this side of Christmas.
Both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 will launch in October, with store shelves quickly filling up with new hardware shortly thereafter. Microsoft will be hoping that its Surface tablets provide some real competition to the iPad, as well as forcing its manufacturing partners to up their game.
A new phone and tablet will be a nice Christmas present for Microsoft’s employees, but the rest of us will have to get saving. No official price has yet been revealed for the Surface tablet, but some rumours suggest it’ll be around £500.
