What the humble text message started, instant messaging services are taking to the next level by evolving at rapid pace. BlackBerry Messenger may have kicked off the mobile IM game, but Samsung’s now raising the bar, with new features in the Samsung ChatON app taking things one step beyond…
ChatON is Android’s fastest-moving IM client, but it doesn’t start and stop on one platform, or on one set of devices: ChatON is available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry. And that’s in 120 countries.
Samsung says that it is “leading the future of IM interaction,” by providing “animated messages for more creative freedom, calendar interaction to manage your busy schedule, group chat and chat rooms, and an interactive profile page.”
So what makes it stand out? Short answer: a bevy of top-end features. The long answer? Well, there’s a collaborative contents box called the ‘Trunk’, for one. The Trunk lets you drop conversations, comments and pictures into a central hub, from which each of your contacts can access the goodies and post them to other sites like Facebook.
Then there’s the animations. As well as properly animated emoticons, ChatON users can draw and send images that come to life on your recipient’s device, replete with sound, text and changing background images.
With all that plus group chat, airtight security and profile elements similar to your favourite social networks, Samsung’s ChatON is positioning itself as a worthy king of the mobile instant messaging space.
