It’s IFA week, so – right on time – LG’s firing handsets out left, right and centre. Yesterday we reported on the leaked LG Optimus G, and now we have the latest in the ‘L’ series of fashion phones: the LG Optimus L9. Does it give the Galaxy S3 a run for its money?
The LG Optimus L9 is a big old phone. With a 4.7-inch display, it sits just 0.1 of an inch smaller than Samsung’s flagship. In terms of overall size, though, there’s not much in it. The L9 looks like a Galaxy S3 with its round edges shorn into corners.
Underneath that display resides a dual-core 1GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM. That’s not the biggest brain of the Android bunch (it’s certainly a mile behind the Optimus G), but it’s not bad for a phone positioning itself as a cheaper Galaxy S3 rival.
Qualcomm’s super chip powering LG’s next wave
The only real bugbear here is the OS. LG has a habit of being a bit behind the times with Android software updates, and this is no exception: like the LG Optimus G, the Optimus L9 will launch with Android 4.0 (rather than Jelly Bean) – and it’s anyone’s guess as to whether it’ll get an update any time soon.
LG’s keeping schtum about the price and release date, but we’ll keep you posted.
