The iPad mini has sparked a bigger ‘will they, won’t they?’ debate than every Ross & Rachel-heavy Friends episode combined. The world’s slowly getting to a point where it’s accepted that Apple probably will launch a 7-inch iPad, but when?
If you believe your persistent rumours, the iPhone 5 is set to launch on September 12th. Some tittle tattle would have you believe that the iPad mini launch will share the same stage, but now sources close to the matter are saying otherwise.
According to the latest mill spinnings, the iPad mini will surface at the same time as the next iteration of the iPod touch, in a separate event to be held in October. The thinking here is that the new iPad, in being a lot smaller, is more akin to the touch than the iPhone.
This would mark the event (which would presumably become an annual affair) as a sort of ‘media consumption’ device launch. In other words: while Apple’s keen to point out just how much you can get done on the current iPad, but that probably won’t be the case on the smaller device. The iPad mini will be all about watching, listening, playing and reading.
Either way, if the iPad mini rumours prove true, you can guarantee it’ll be out before Christmas.
