The update, released today, brings one new feature to the Skype app that WhatsApp’s always proffered: the ability to send and receive images on the fly on your iPhone or iPad, mid-chat.

It’s a seemingly simple addition, but it’s an important one for anyone who prefers to use VoIP and IM services over calling or texting.

The update also brings with it a speed boost and a decrease in power consumption. It’s available now for any device running iOS 4.3 and above.

    Skype is a good iOS app (and service in general) all round. They just need to work on their VOIP call quality as it’s rather hit or miss
