Apple’s latest operating system goes on sale today from the Mac App Store. Though it’s not up yet. But we’re sure it’ll be along later in the day.
For £13.99, you can get all the benefits of Apple’s latest innovations. So what’s new? Let’s take a peek.
iCloud comes completely baked into Mountain Lion, integrating reminders and notes across all your devices. It also integrates with Messages on your iOS devices, so if you get a message on your iPhone you’ll be able to reply using your Mac.
Documents In The Cloud backs up all kinds of documents across all devices, including Pages, Numbers, KeyNote, and TextEdit. Voice dictation comes as part of the package, and Safari gets a new unified search bar as well as iCloud tab syncing, so you can load a page on your Mac that was open on another device.
Your Mac will also get Notification Center, which brings together in one sidebar everything that’s happening. It’s a bit like Notifications on iOS, and lets you stay on top of everything.
Your Mac can update Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Photo Stream, Find My Mac and Documents In The Cloud while it’s asleep. So wake it up, and it’s ready to go, with no hanging around.
A new Share button lets you tell people what you’re up to from within Safari, so you don’t have to start an email to send a link. And OS X Mountain Lion will play nicer with Facebook, too.
