Samsung predicted it would sell 10 million Galaxy S3 smartphones by the end of July, and now it’s done just that.

It also said it’d reach 19m sales by the autumn – has it set the bar too high? We’re hearing a certain iPhone is expected to arrive around then too, so things should be hotting up nicely.

J.K. Shin, head of Samsung’s mobile communications division, told the Yonhap news agency: “It appears that it [accumulated sales] has exceeded 10 million units.”

The S3 went on sale at the end of May, so it’s taken less than two months to reach 10 million sales. That’s not bad going at all. Shortly before launch, Carphone Warehouse released figures saying the S3 was the most pre-ordered gadget in history, and it looks like it’s been proved correct.

Last month, Shin predicted the S3 would reach 10 million sales by the end of July. Previously, the company said it expected to reach 19 million sales by the autumn. That sounds a lot, but consider that the original Galaxy S and S2 have sold a combined 50 million units, and it doesn’t seem impossible.

The next iPhone is also expected to launch in the autumn, and Windows Phone 8 is due November, so expect some fierce competition for your phone funds come Christmas.

Due to Apple’s hubris and ‘nakhras’ (Hindi) Samsung will easily cross 19 million by fall.
