Amazon is testing its much-rumoured smartphone, and it could go on sale this year, according to sources familiar with the matter.
But more exciting is news that it could have a 5-inch screen. That’s bigger than the Galaxy S3, and almost on a par with the Galaxy Note.
This is the latest tidbit to fuel the rumour fire. Bloomberg reported over the weekend that Amazon was working on a smartphone. The Seattle-based company is reportedly working with suppliers in Asia.
The device’s screen will apparently measure “between 4- and 5-inches” according to one party familiar with the matter, so it could well be one of the biggest phones around.
In May, more rumours came that Amazon’s phone would have a screen larger than 4-inches. This is all the more exciting considering Amazon is likely to use the same business model as the Kindle Fire tablet, selling it at a low price, making only a small profit on each, but making up for it with ebooks, music and films it sells from Amazon.
There’s a gap in the market for an affordable, big-screen Android offering. This could well fill it.
